Surgery Complications: Mom is back in the hospitalViews: 223

Well, Mom is back in the hospital for a 2nd surgery due to complications. We don’t know all the details yet but it sounds like there are complications with her incision from the colostomy surgery. A small hole opened in the incision exposing her small intestine which could lead to serious infection. She called the nurse for a home visit today because she was concerned about it and the nurse called the surgeon who said Mom had to come in so he could examine it. He said it could cause a serious infection so Mom is having to undergo another surgery to repair the incision. We are not sure if they are going to open her up to the extent they did for the original surgery or just repair it with a couple staples but since they are knocking her out I assume it is more serious than a little repair. I just wish I could be there with her.

I hope they are going to repair the other complication she has been having as well. It appears they tore a little hole in her uterine wall when performing the original surgery. They put her on some hormones to try to naturally patch the hole but they said they may need to put in a couple stitches to help it heal faster. This hole has caused perinatal fluid to leak which has not been a pleasant experience for Mom. All of that on top of trying to adjust to the colostomy has made for a very uncomfortable 2 weeks since surgery for Mom. She seems really down because she was just starting to get back her energy and being able to move around without pain.

I am so sorry! Wish the complications didn’t happen. I’m praying for a speedy recovery and encouragement for all of you.
Hugs!
Karen

Ugh! Sorry to hear about the 2nd surgery. I hope the surgery will be small and easier than the first one. and hope she has a speedy recovery.
